Tom McLaughlin

Mini bio

  • Originally from Ohio, Tom McLaughlin is a composer and multi instrumentalist based in Los Angeles with his musical roots in New Orleans and San Francisco.

Tom is proficient in a wide range of styles and moods, thanks to his years recording and performing jazz, rock, hip-hop, piano music, various ethnic styles and many more. Tom also studied composition with Alain Mayrand (orchestrator on Neill Bloomkamp's Elysium) and classical and jazz guitar with renowned guitar guru John Rankin.

As a bandleader for the New Orleans band Good Guys, his albums include "The Social Engagement" produced by Mike Napolitano (Squirrel Nut Zippers, Blind Melon, Ani DiFranco), "Blue EP" among others. During this process he worked closely with, and wrote parts for, percussionist Mike Dillon (Les Claypool, Galactic, Ani DiFranco).

Tom has written for a number of film projects, including half a dozen with long-time collaborator director Jason Affolder. In 2010, Tom created a multi-media art exhibition titled "Obituaries 1913". It was selected by, among others, the prestigious Tulane University's Carroll Gallery in New Orleans, as well as galleries in Austin and San Francisco.
