Biography

Dan Deacon is an award winning composer, recording artist, and performer. Deacon's work in film and television scoring includes projects for major studios and outlets including Netflix, Disney, AppleTV, PBS, ESPN, and HBO. Deacon's score for Jessica Kingdon's Oscar-nominated documentary Ascension won the Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Score award at the 2022 Cinema Eye Honors. His albums Spiderman of the Rings and Bromst were named Best New Music by Pitchfork. Deacon has premiered compositions at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Barbican Centre, has collaborated with Kronos Quartet, So Percussion, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, LA Philharmonic as well scored ballets for choreographer Justin Peck for the New York City Ballet and Juilliard.

We live in a culture and in a society where there seems to be endless amounts of whatever it is that we want..if you're lucky to live in privileged worlds that are North America or Europe. But at the same time you start to realize a threshold where endless abundance is not everything.

I think so many people look at me and wonder, 'How the hell did he make it?' So I feel like I've got the luxury to morph. The changes that I've made have been met very positively, even though I was very nervous about it all. I'm sure there were people who were like, 'What? This guy had a song called 'Red Penis', and now he's got an album called 'America'? That's ridiculous.'
