Mini bio

  • Liana Arauz is an American actress known for her work in film, television, and theatre. Born in Managua, Nicaragua, she grew up between several countries during times of political unrest, an experience that shaped her perspective and her artistry. The only artist in a family of doctors and engineers, she began performing at age four and wrote her first award-winning play at thirteen. Liana trained in New York City with Academy Award-winning director Mike Nichols at the New Actors Workshop, as well as Second City founder Paul Sills. She was cast in her first professional production by the late David Hugh Jones of the Royal Shakespeare Company and later performed the piece at the United Nations. Her debut film, The Pilgrim, earned her a Best Actress nomination in the NYC festival circuit, and she went on to co-produce and star in the world premiere of Yolanda García Serrano's comedy Good Sex, Good Day, which later enjoyed two successful runs in Spain. In Los Angeles, Liana is often cast in roles that balance strength and vulnerability. Her recent work includes Beef, Bosh Legacy, the independent feature Solidarity. She also appeared in the critically acclaimed play Detained, where her performance was highlighted by the LA Times as part of the production's "strong performances"; the show went on to win three NAACP Theatre Awards, including Best Ensemble. Liana is also the lead voice and on-camera performer-both in English and Spanish-of the viral comedic clip "La Chancla," a fan-favorite piece about growing up in a Latino household. She speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese.
