Fred Anderson was born on 22 March 1929 in Monroe, Louisiana, USA. He was an actor, known for Timeless: Live at the Velvet Lounge (2006) and Fred Anderson 80th Birthday Bash: Live at the Velvet Lounge (2009). He died on 14 June 2010 in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Father of two sons, Michael Anderson and Eugene Anderson. He is survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In 1982, he opened the Velvet Lounge Music Club in South-side Chicago, Illinois where he was owner until his death.

In 1965, he was a founder with the pianist Muhal Richard Abrams and others of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians in Chicago, Illinois.

He recorded more than two dozen albums with musicians including saxophonist Joseph Jarman, trombonist George Lewis, and drummer Chad Taylor among them.
