Studied philosophy and economic history at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland during his junior year in college.

While still in college, he acted in a student production of "Measure for Measure." The set designer was David Crank and Caty Maxey was also in the cast.

His favorite golf course is managed by Tyson Birmann. The closest he has ever been to scoring a hole-in-one, at any course, was on the thirteen hole at Rainbow. Tyson Birmann designed and built the island green on that hole while he was still in high school. Michael Shea's tee shot hit the flag stick and dropped less than two feet from the hole.
