Biography

  • Julie Schuldt is an award-winning filmmaker from Santa Rosa, California. A poetic and theatrical storyteller, she is known for her cinematic narratives that explore a kaleidoscope of human emotion.

Raised in an "unschooled" environment, Julie developed a unique brand of storytelling from a young age, completing her first feature-length film, Insensate, at just 15. This was followed by three more features: In My Cards (2014), Young Harper (2019), and Sometimes I Dream of Wandering (2020), which earned her acceptance into the prestigious USC School of Cinematic Arts.

At USC, Julie pursued her MFA in Film & Television Production, where her short films-including her semi-autobiographical Capstone Project, The Things I Leave Behind (2025)-showcased her distinctive vision. Her work combines concise storytelling with captivating theatrical elements and profoundly poetic themes. During her time at USC, Julie was honored with the USC Annenberg Graduate Fellowship and was selected as a SONY Future of Cinematography awardee. She also holds a BA in Theater Arts with Highest Honors in Directing from the University of California, San Diego.
