Virginia Cowan is a queer creator, actor, stand up comic and proud parent of two. They also enjoy teaching motorcycle riding and working with animals. They are a CAEA and ACTRA member and a graduate of Sheridan College’s Music Theatre Program. You can find them performing stand up comedy at open mic nights around the Niagara/ Hamilton region. Current projects include working with Anastasia Kokolakis on a play about adoptees which received a nod as finalists in the 2026 Equity Showcase Cayle Chernin Theatre Development Award.
As an actor they were happy to hop on board Thane Economou's Feature Film, Trust Me I'm a Doctor as Khristine Eroshevitch in 2024. They produced / co-produced and took the lead in 3 short films in 2022-2023 including People Watching, (She Lifts Off Films/ Kate Campbell) For Rent (FineCut Films /Michèle Kaye) and Stranding (Lucy Belgum).
While raising a family, for 15+ years Virginia ran Mabel Moon, a children's entertainment and face painting company. They travelled Ontario with their 30 minute live clown show Mabel Moon Live ! And performed and painted at many fairs and festivals over the years including Mabel Moon and The Cabinet of Curiosities exclusively for the ROM Toronto, and Mabel Moon Goes to Earth for the Toronto Kids Fringe Festival. They also enjoyed their time as a resident performer for two seasons at Santa’s Village in Bracebridge, ON.
Wanting to explore their creativity in different avenues, Virginia co-produced, created and starred in a 12-episode live-action television show called Face Paint and Fairy Tales with Rogers TV Barrie, which can also be viewed on Mabel Moon's You Tube Channel. Wanting to go even further, in 2021 they produced 3 concept episodes of a live action children's series called Face Paint and Folk Tales, pairing face painting with tales from around the world. Virginia was excited to pitch their idea to Sesame Workshop. The episodes can be viewed on Mabel Moon's YouTube Channel.
