Sergey Mavrody is an Emmy Award-winning production designer, animator, and director. He received an Emmy for his work as a production designer on the musical film 'The Bridge'. His 1991 animated film, 'Dangerous Planet', which he produced and directed, won awards at the North Carolina International Film Festival and the Chicago Moving Image Film/Video Festival.
In addition to his film work, Sergey is a pioneering inventor in computer science and user experience design. His foundational patents for touch-screen technology have been licensed by nearly every major mobile device manufacturer.
A dedicated educator and leader in the film community, Sergey has served as a visiting professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and DeVry University. He was a board member for the ASIFA (International Animated Film Association) and served as the Head of the Animation Jury for the prestigious Chicago International Film Festival. He is also the founder and president of the Blow-Up International Arthouse Film Festival in Chicago.
Originally from Moldova, USSR, Sergey is a graduate of the VGIK film school in Moscow and holds an MFA in Interaction Design and Computer Animation from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1996, he was granted U.S. citizenship under the "Alien of Extraordinary Ability" classification for his outstanding contributions to his field.
