Kainaz Motivala is an Indian actress who has worked primarily in Hindi cinema, with additional appearances in Telugu language projects and commercial advertising. She grew up in Mumbai and her mother tongue is Gujarati, reflecting the city's diverse Parsi community. As a teenager, Motivala participated in an exchange program that took her to Germany at age 15, where she lived with a host family for a year and studied the German language. She attended J.B Vachha High School and later graduated with a Bachelor of Mass Media degree from Jai Hind College in Mumbai. Though she received acceptance for a Master in Journalism program in London, she ultimately chose not to pursue it. She received extensive dance training under choreographer Shiamak Davar for six years, a foundation that would later inform her performance work.

Before entering the film industry, Motivala worked as a journalist and part-time model. After graduating from Jai Hind College, she took a position with HAIR Magazine in India. Her transition into acting occurred serendipitously: while coordinating a makeover shoot for a beauty magazine, an assistant director noticed her and invited her to audition. She had never participated in theatrical productions during her school or college years and possessed no formal acting training. Her first screen role came in 2009 with a supporting part in the coming-of-age drama opposite Ranbir Kapoor. This was followed by another ensemble production in 2010. In 2011, she secured her breakthrough as the lead in the horror thriller Ragini MMS, a found-footage style production that challenged her to carry the narrative. Director Atul Mongia played a significant role in her development as an actor during this project. She continued with work in additional Hindi and Telugu language productions through the mid-2010s.

Beyond feature work, Motivala has maintained a presence in commercial advertising, appearing in campaigns for Uninor, McDonald's, Videocon Mobile Phone, and Sony Pix. She pursued additional certification as a Zumba instructor, combining her dance background with fitness training. Motivala has also published written work, expanding her creative practice beyond performance.
