Biography

J. Anthony Kosar is an Emmy® Nominated Special FX Makeup Artist and Prosthetic Designer. Anthony grew up with a passion for art, drawing and painting while also performing in theater. Combining these visual and performing arts, along with his love for monsters and movies, led him to pursue a career in Special FX. Through his company Kosart Studios, Anthony's credits as a Special FX Makeup Department Head and Prosthetic Designer include "Candyman," "Fargo," "Shining Girls," "Paper Girls," "Power Book IV: Force," "Station Eleven," "Empire," "Chicago PD," and many others. His work on "Lovecraft Country" earned him an Emmy Nomination for "Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup." In 2013, Anthony became the Syfy "Face Off" Season 4 Champion by creating unique characters and creatures that each tell a story. On the show, he won 6 of 11 Spotlight Challenges, setting the record of most consecutive wins in a row and most wins by a single contestant on a single season. Besides FX, Anthony also designs and sculpts prototypes for toys, masks, and collectibles, and is an internationally awarded illustrator and fine artist, and even writes stories and poetry. He is inspired by filmmakers Guillermo del Toro and James Cameron who began their careers as an FX artist and a model maker, respectively. Like them, Anthony wants to take his art further to write and create the worlds that exist in his mind. A born storyteller of many mediums, Anthony has recently teamed up with his sister Melissa Kosar, an accomplished director, to pursue writing their own projects together.
