He pursued his education at Raisina Bengali School and later graduated with an honors degree in Mathematics from Zakir Husain College.

Chandan made his acting debut in the 2006 film **Rang De Basanti**, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, where he portrayed Batukeshwar Dutt in a minor role. His big break came with Vishal Bhardwaj's 2009 action film **Kaminey**, where his performance earned critical acclaim and was well-received by the audience. This role established him as a notable supporting actor in the Indian film industry.

In 2010, Chandan made his Bengali film debut with **Mahanagar at Kolkata**, receiving praise for his supporting role. He continued to garner recognition for his performances in the 2012 Bengali drama film **Aparajita Tumi** and as an insomniac artist in the 2013 romantic drama **Prague**. His versatile acting skills and dedication to his craft have made him a respected figure in Indian cinema.

Chandan shares a close bond with director Vishal Bhardwaj, whom he considers his mentor and a father figure. This relationship has greatly influenced his career and artistic growth.

Apart from his film career, Chandan has made significant contributions to theatre. His directorial theatre play, an adaptation of Vijay Tendulkar's **Sakharam Binder**, was awarded the "THESPO" award for the best play in 2004, and Chandan won the best actor's prize for this play.
