Biography

Michel Odent was born on July 7, 1930 in Bresles, Oise, France. He was married to Nicole Toulat and Judy Graham. He died on August 19, 2025 in London, England, UK.

He ran a French public hospital in the late 1960s where he introduced the concept of natural environment for childbirth, similar to the comfort of home, bathtub for pain relief and reduction of external interventions.

He believed that mother-to-be's labour can be longer, more painful and more complicated because she senses his anxiety and becomes nervous.

Strong connection with the Brazilian movement for the humanization of childbirth.
