Native of Pennsylvania, Chriss Barkley aka Miss Chriss graduated from
the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, School of
Filmmaking, as a Film Producing Major in 2010. In high school, she
attended Capital Area School for the Arts, where her intrigue with
cameras quickly developed into a passion for telling great stories.
During her freshmen year of college she worked on the University of
Southern California's short film entitled "TURBO" as a Second Assistant
Director. There, she was responsible for managing the on-set production
office and maintaining the morale of the film's cast and crew. This
film was later screened at Paramount Pictures.
Two years later, at UNCSA, she produced a viral commercial campaign for Hanes Champion entitled "What's Your Everest?" and a short film entitled "In Passing" which were screened at Warner Brothers Studios in May 2009. During that same time, she founded her production company, Down In Front Films, LLC. aka DIFF MOVIES. The summer that followed, via DIFF, she worked diligently overseeing a team of 50+ cast and crew to produce her first independent short film "Pitch Black Milk" which she also wrote and directed. That summer proved to be one of surmounting the impossible. She continued to raise money to finish the project, which was finished in Feb. 2011. "Pitch Black Milk" has circulated the festival route. It received the Award of Excellence at the Best Shorts Competition. It also screened at the notable Pan African Film Festival and the National Black Theater Festival.
In the fall of 2009, a short film entitled "Pink Triangle" was desperately in need of a producer with drive, determination, and proficiency. With two weeks and 5k, Chriss took on the challenge of completing this film (set in 1944, Nazi Germany). In her final term, she produced a commercial, entitled "Young Forever" for Flow Automotives, featuring the Cadillac CTS (in conjunction with her film program). Upon completion, she received a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in May 2010.
Shortly after graduation, she moved to LA to interned for Walt Disney Studios working on the film "You Again". She also worked for TV One on "Will to Live", and for FX Networks on "The League". Now back on the east coast, Chriss Barkley is no stranger to hard work and late nights. As a freelance producer, director and writer, she has partnered with a rising production company where she is developing major motion pictures. Under 3Actrical Productions LLC., she recently completed a short film entitled "The Patient", where she served as the Director, as the Director, a Writer and a Producer. In the future, Miss Chriss will continue to tell stories about people from various walks of life, to create films with a heartbeat, while hiring diverse casts and crews. Through her work, it is her mission to inspire others to know that they too can realize their dreams.
