Biography

Sam Shore is a New Zealand writer and creator whose work moves between intimate character drama and bold, internationally scaled genre storytelling.

He is the creator and executive producer of the international crime thriller The Darkness for CBS Studios, starring Lena Olin and directed by Academy Award nominee Lasse Hallström, which has sold across all major English-language territories.

He was part of the key creative team behind the BAFTA-nominated After the Party for Lingo Pictures, and has run multiple international writers’ rooms, including Season One of the CBBC YA sci-fi drama Mystic. He has developed projects with Apple TV+ International, SISTER (Chernobyl, Gangs of London), Warner Bros. Discovery New Zealand, Little Island Productions (Patrick Melrose, The Wheel of Time), and Krasnoff/Foster Entertainment (Community), and has served as a finalist judge for the International Emmy Sir Peter Ustinov Award for Scriptwriting.

Earlier in his career, Sam created and led a national initiative supporting LGBTQ+ youth in New Zealand, work that saw him named a finalist for Young New Zealander of the Year, one of the country’s highest honours.

He lives in Auckland with his husband and their two extremely greedy dogs, and is represented by Fictional Entity and Nelson Davis LLP in Los Angeles.
