Biography

Sami Khan is an Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated filmmaker whose work in fiction and documentary has been supported by the Sundance and Tribeca Film Institutes, Rooftop Films, the Gotham, and the NBC/Universal Directors Fellowship. His films have been screened at leading festivals including Tribeca, Toronto, Hot Docs, and Mumbai.

He directed the short documentary St. Louis Superman (with Smriti Mundhra) about Bruce Franks Jr., a Ferguson activist turned politician. The doc was nominated for an Academy Award in 2020 and won prizes at Tribeca and Hot Docs. The film was acquired by MTV Documentary Films.

His first feature documentary the Last Out (with Michael Gassert) won a Special Jury Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival and nabbed an Emmy. The film tells the harrowing tale of three Cuban baseball players and their dangerous journeys to the United States. The Hollywood Reporter called the Last Out "a powerful true story of athletics and exile."

Sami's next film is being produced by Vespucci (2nd Chance) and Will Arnett's Electric Ave. The Untitled documentary, which tells the story of an infamous sports broadcaster turned bank robber, will be released on one of the major streaming companies in 2024.
