- Mark lived in New Mexico, Kansas, Maryland, Virginia and Bangkok, Thailand before the age of 12. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1983 with a degree in magazine journalism, then worked as a graphic designer for 20 years. After earning a master's degree in American history from Loyola University in 2007, he set out to make his first film on the Chicago architect Louis Sullivan, released in 2010.
