Biography

Marcel Luiz aka Ziul is a visual artist who has lived in Santa Monica, California since 2007.

Born in Brazil, Marcel began his career in 1999 in the city of Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil. A graduate in advertising, Ziul moved to Sao Paulo in 2005, working with some of the top studios in the city, including Blackmaria filmes and mixer group.

In late 2005 working as an art director at Blackmaria, Ziul was nominated in 4 categories for the MTV VMB. These nominations included 3 music videos for best art direction for the following artists: Charlie Brown JR (ela vai voltar), Massacration, and Pitty. In 2006, Ziul won the "profissionais do ano" of Rede Globo with 2 spots made for the Puc Minas campaign.

Ziul was invited to be an art director at Conspiracao Filmes. It was a great experience for him to work with some of the best directors in Brazil such as: Breno Silveira, Andrucha Waddington, Fabio Soares. He was responsible for the art direction of most of the projects at Conspiracao during 2006/mid 2007 such as: Claro, Visa, Pepsi, GM, Itau, Coca-cola, GNT, Vale, Unilever, Guarana; Antartica.

After a vacation trip to Los Angeles in july 2007, Ziul was invited to the u.s. to work at Belief Design, a fantastic opportunity and a first step into the U.S. industry.

In 2009, Marcel chose to become a freelance artist and has since worked with studios in the U.S. such as: Prologue Films, Stardust, Zoic Studios, Troika, Shilo, Perception NYC, Apple, MAL/TBWA and Bigstar, where he won the silver promax bda award for the bio channel rebrand as an art director/lead animator.

In 2012, Marcel has been nominated for the Emmy's Award in the outstanding achievement in main title and graphic design for the Dr. Phil daytime graphics package.
