  • Stephen de Villiers is a filmmaker, producer and creative executive, with over two decades experience in the screen industry. Originally from South Africa and now based in Australia, Stephen is known for bold, emotionally resonant storytelling across drama, documentary, and factual entertainment. He is the founder of Watchpost, a leading production and post-production studio in South Australia, and co-founder of Arterial Films, a long-form entertainment company developing premium, filmmaker-led stories for the global market. He has directed and produced work for many global brands and platforms, including Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery, Intel and Conde Nast, Stephen's recent work includes The Burnt Half (director/producer - SBS / X4), a feature documentary about the Kangaroo Island bushfires; The Run, (writer/director/producer) a dystopian action thriller being sold globally by Global Constellation (Telepool) starring Callan Mulvey and Charlotte Maggi; Bloom (writer/director/producer), a youth series produced with Camp Quality, Cancer Australia and Screen Australia; The Rover of Tobruk, a WWII documentary acquired by Channel 7 (AU), Fox Sports (US), and BT Sport (UK); and Gymnastics Academy: A Second Chance (episode director), South Australia's first Netflix-commissioned TV series. An alumnus of the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), Stephen's work has screened at over 60 international festivals, including Giffoni, Flickerfest, Byron Bay and San Francisco IFF. He is developing a slate of scripted and factual projects through Arterial Films, focused on globally relevant stories grounded in bold vision and strong character.
