Streaming Stars, Then and Now

John R. Blythe is a Producer and Production Consultant with over 20 years of experience on independently financed feature films.

A native of Southern California, John's work in the film industry began in 2006 as a member of the production staff on the PBS documentary feature series "Wild West Country" under the direction of Emmy® Award winning filmmaker/cinematographer Charles L. Barbee. Later that same year, John formed Film Regions International (FRI), as a small independent production company which was later incorporated in 2009 with filmmaker Eric Walter, with the objective to sell stock to finance and produce film projects that the company developed as well as to sell high quality independent films for the U.S. and international markets.

In 2016, Eric Walter left FRI to pursue his creative interests without corporate responsibilities. Under John's continued leadership as CEO, he produced over 20 feature films, established relationships with distribution and sales companies as well as relationships with post-production facilities in the U.S. and Canada and served as Producer's Representative for numerous foreign films seeking sales and distribution in the English speaking territories. John has also worked in various capacities as Controller, Executive Producer and Production Administrator on other feature films, and has been a consultant to independent filmmakers throughout the United States, as well as Australia, Canada, Chile, Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Challenging conditions within the film industry in 2024 however, necessitated John and the Board of Directors of FRI to consider restructuring the company. In 2025, FRI entered into a joint venture and management sharing partnership with another independent film company, Bonfire Entertainment Group in an effort to raise additional working capital. As part of the FRI/Bonfire arrangement, John resigned from his position as CEO, but retained his seat on FRI's Board of Directors as Co-Chairman; and as a major stockholder in the company he had helped co-founded.

John's work in film has taken him across the globe to locations in Hollywood, New York City, Vancouver, London and Jakarta. As Producer, John has worked with numerous acting talents including Vincent Pastore (HBO's "The Sopranos"), Lindze Letherman (ABC's "General Hospital"), Richard Grieco ("21 Jump Street"), James Duval ("Independence Day", "Donnie Darko"), Kane Hodder ("Friday the 13th" films, "Hatchet" films), Vincent M. Ward (AMC's "The Walking Dead"), Susan Lanier (Wes Craven's "The Hills Have Eyes"), Dee Wallace ("Cujo", Steven Spielberg's "E.T."), Michael Pare ("The Philadelphia Experiment") and Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe® Award winner Sally Kirkland ("Anna", Oliver Stone's "JFK").

Some of John's diverse Producing credits include "A Familiar Spirit", "Booze Broads and Blackjack", "Border Brothers", "Desert Moon", "Machine Gun Baby", "Operation Mongoose", "The New Hands", "Inverted", "How to Kill Your Co-Workers and Get Away With It", "All Hallows Eve: Trickster" (a sequel to the "All Hallows Eve" films that spawned the successful "Terrifier" horror film franchise); the critically acclaimed "My Amityville Horror" and the foreign language film "Rumah dan Musim Hujan" (English Title: "One Day when the Rain Falls" AKA: "Hoax"). Several of these films have also played as official selections in major film festivals including the Fantasia International Film Festival, the International Film Festival of Rotterdam, the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival, the Shanghai International Film Festival, the BFI London Film Festival, the Action on Film (AOF) International Film Festival and the Los Angeles Scream-Fest Horror Film Festival, with worldwide releases handled by distributors including IFC Films, Gravitas Ventures Entertainment, Indican Pictures, Highland Film Group, Falcon Pictures and Video-on-Demand platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Tubi TV and Netflix.

John has degrees in Business Administration from Cerro Coso College and Business and Management of Entertainment from University of California, Los Angeles. John also studied Producing at Canada's Vancouver Film School and has a certificate in International Trade from University of the Pacific. He is also certified in Production Cost Reporting for U.S. and Canadian film tax incentive programs from John Gaskin Productions. John is a member of Film Independent, The International Documentary Association and The Producers Guild of America (PGA).

Outside of the film industry, John holds an elected public office as a member of the governing Board of Directors for the Kern Valley Healthcare District located in his home town of Lake Isabella, California; and served on the board of directors as a Regional Vice President for the National Exchange Club, America's premier service organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and helping at risk youth and homeless veterans.

(September 2009-October 2025) Co-Chairman of the Board and CEO of Film Regions International, Inc., an independent film production company. In October, 2025 resigned as CEO, after Bonfire Entertainment Group took over shared management responsibilities, however he currently retains his title as non executive Co-Chairman of the Board.

Had interests in becoming a film score composer, an actor and a director before eventually settling into the field of film producing. His alternative career interest that was not related to film was serving in some capacity in foreign affairs. He even completed the foreign service officer exam issued by the U.S. State Department.

Serves on a local government board as an elected public official for a major hospital and health care district.

Is of mixed ancestry: Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Italian, French German, Portuguese and Serbian.

Interned in production development at Tranacas Films and Senator Films in 2008.

His passion and inspiration for pursuing independent filmmaking began in his early years after renting &quot;Grizzly&quot; (1976) and &quot;Halloween&quot; (1978) on VHS. Both films at the time of their releases, were the highest grossing independent films ever made.

Received accreditation from The Producers Guild of America to use the &quot;p.g.a.&quot; mark for producing contributions on the film &quot;The New Hands&quot;.

Frequently wears sunglasses as a result of photokeratitis, a form of eye damage which the cornea is sensitive to light and bright colors.
