Biography

Mara Jean Quinn is an Australian actor, filmmaker and artist. She has been acting in theatre since 1999 and film since 2006. Mara has worked across the industry in writing, producing, directing, assistant directing, production assisting and wardrobe. She is a diverse talent with the ability to work in both comedy and drama. Mara trained in Brisbane and Sydney.

Mara Jean Quinn works both in front of and behind the camera. Andamooka is Mara’s first feature film, which she wrote, directed, produced and starred in. Andamooka is a female lead coming of age road movie set across outback landscapes of Australia. Andamooka played at a range of film festivals across Australia and Europe; it aired on channel Ten and is now housed on Paramount+.

Mara started off in acting when her Mum won drama lessons in a raffle when she was nine. Since Mara was 15 she took an interest in screen acting and in her early 20s in screenwriting. In 2017 she co-wrote and starred in the short film The Tingle Test, a story about two girls fishing for groceries out of a dumpster. The Tingle Test travelled to six film festivals around the world. In 2021 Mara co-directed and produced a short documentary Desert Metal Dreaming that is housed on ABC iView. This documentary was a collaboration with local Arrentre people near Alice Springs. Mara has worked on countless sets in advertising, short and feature films. She continues to work as a filmmaker and actor and is a passionate actor’s director and adores the feature film format. Mara is drawn to Indigenous culture, the natural environment and female stories.
