Frances Barth

  • Frances Barth was born in the Bronx and has been a New York-based visual artist since the 60s. In the last 15+ years, she has written and directed short films, documentaries, narrative/experimental films, and animated films. She published her first graphic novel, Ginger Smith and Billy Gee, in 2017 which was derived from her paintings and later expanded into a script and performed at Silas Von Morisse gallery in 2018. Her new film Ginger Smith and Billy Gee (2024) is a complete green screen experimental film adapted from her graphic novel of the same name. In 2007, she made her first animation, End of the Day, End of the Day (2007) which was also scripted and presented at Triangle Artists in 2019 with 2 actors and video projection. Her film Dreaming Tango (2020) premiered through New York Anthology Film Archives in August 2020 and won Best Experimental Short at the Cannes Short Film Festival. Frances' film Cock Robin (2023) was a winner at the New York Movie Awards in Comedy. She has studied film history, cinematography, editing, and producing at School of Visual Arts and received a certificate in Film/TV from New York University. Frances is a member of the Filmmakers Cooperative in New York City.
