- Gunars Placens was born on August 31, 1927 in Sausneja parish, Ergli Municipality, Latvia. He was an actor, known for Melna veza spiles (1975), Naves ena (1972) and Vella kalpi (1970). He was married to Ruta Baganti. He died on November 30, 2024 in Latvia.

- He studied at the Sausneja Janis Zalitis six-year elementary school, later at the Vestiena Agricultural and Livestock School.
- At the Vecbebri Beekeeping and Horticulture Technical School, Placens obtained a diploma in beekeeping and agronomy, and also actively participated in theatrical performances at the technical school.
- He gained recognition by playing cheerful and energetic comic characters, especially with the role of the soldier Sveik in the 1961 production "Sveiks" by Eduard Smilg .
- Gunars Placens played on the Daile Theater stage for almost 70 years.
