Mini bio

  • Geoffrey Austin Newland grew up in a hotel in Hawick, Scotland, "...alone, surrounded by strangers" a childhood that left its mark. His parents separated when he was six and he navigated an unstable home life, finding refuge in his imagination. He was sent to boarding school for twelve years.

Geoffrey studied law and qualified as a Barrister before spending two years travelling the world. The death of his father, a man who had battled bipolar disorder and alcoholism, proved a turning point. Having first caught the acting bug playing Caliban at twelve, Geoffrey finally committed to the stage. He trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York.

His screen credits include 28 Years Later (dir. Danny Boyle), The Franchise (dir. Sam Mendes), Kursk (dir. Thomas Vinterberg), the Emmy-nominated A Kind of Spark, Coronation Street, Outlander, Spooks and Da Vinci's Demons. He has also worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Geoffrey is the host of the podcast Night Falls. He lives in Camden with his wife and three children.
