- Blair has composed over two hundred scores for film, theatre and television, spanning work with The English National Ballet, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and broadcasters including BBC, Sky and ITV. A BAFTA-nominated, award-winning composer with almost 20 years of professional experience, he is known for emotionally driven, character-led scores with a strong sense of melody.
Recent television highlights include Blair’s BAFTA-nominated score for Russell T Davies’s ITV drama Nolly (2024). That collaboration led directly to Men Up, a BBC One film executive-produced by Davies. Other credits include the Doctor Who spin-off Class, ITV’s hit series McDonald & Dodds, and Mark Gatiss’s directorial debut for Sky, The Amazing Mr Blunden. Blair also scored the BritBox hit thriller After the Flood which returned for a second season in early 2026. The end of 2025 saw the release of The Guest, a new thriller for BBC One and Showtime which became one of the most-watched dramas on the BBC that year.
Blair holds a BA (Hons) in Music from Durham University and an MA in Composition for Film and Television from the University of Bristol, graduating with Distinction. In 2012, he was nominated for both a Creative Scotland Award for Best New Talent and a BAFTA Scotland Award. McDonald & Dodds and The Amazing Mr Blunden were double-nominated for Best Original TV Score and Best Opening Titles at the Music + Sound Awards, while Nolly received a Best Original TV Score nomination in 2023 and went on to win Best TV Score in Europe at the Camille Awards in 2024.
Other recent film work includes Doctor Jekyll, a Hammer Horror feature starring Eddie Izzard, and Black Dog, which premiered at the BFI London Film Festival. In 2024, Blair scored two documentaries: Becoming Hitchcock, a feature by Laurent Bouzereau for StudioCanal, and The Age of Disclosure, which premiered at SXSW and went on to become one of the most widely discussed and viewed documentaries of the year following its release on Amazon Prime Video. Blair’s score for The Age of Disclosure won Best Documentary Film Score of the Year at the ASCAP Composers’ Choice Awards in 2026
Blair splits his time between London, Los Angeles and Edinburgh.
