Biography

Carlos Castaño was born on May 16, 1965 in Amalfi, Colombia. He died on April 16, 2004.

Declared missing in 2004, his remains were found in a shallow grave in 2006.

Though known as a Vigilante throughout Colombia's underworld, he served many times as a mercenary for the infamous Cali Cartel.

His brothers Fidel and Vicente were both members of right-wing paramilitary groups.

In the early nineties, he joined the Pablo Escobar manhunt by leading a branch of the Vigilante Group Los Pepes (standing for PErseguidos por Pablo EScobar - people persecuted by Pablo Escobar). Despite revealing his membership with the Vigilante groupe, Castano kept quiet about the identity of its leaders and trainers of the rogue unit which was rumored to be led by Former Army General Hugo Martinez and trained by US Army's elite SFOD-D (Special Forces Operation Detachement Delta), commonly known as Delta Force.

Was the head of Colombia's right-wing paramilitary group AUC (United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia).
