Biography

Gary Newman is a highly successful American entertainment executive who spent nearly three decades shaping the landscape of modern network television. He is most widely recognized for his long-term partnership with Dana Walden, with whom he co-led the Fox Television Group as Chairman and CEO until 2019.

Before taking the helm at Fox, Newman built his professional roots in entertainment law and business affairs, working for several years at both Columbia Pictures Television and NBC. He officially joined 20th Century Fox Television in 1990. Through his sharp leadership and business strategy, he was eventually named President of the studio in 1999, a role he held for 15 years before adding the Fox Broadcasting Company network to his executive purview.

During his historic executive tenure, Newman oversaw the development, production, and distribution of some of the biggest global hits in television history. His legacy includes era-defining series such as 24, Glee, Modern Family, Homeland, How I Met Your Mother, 9-1-1, and The Simpsons.

Outside of his major corporate roles, Newman has occasionally crossed over into pop culture by playing animated versions of himself. He has lent his voice to multiple episodes of the hit animated series Family Guy. He serves on the commercial board of directors for the BBC and remains an active board member for several prominent non-profit organizations, including the Paley Center for Media and the Alliance for Children's Rights.
