Biography

Born in Northampton General Hospital, he lived in the small village of Draughton until the age of 5. His family then moved in to the 'Southend Hotel' Public House in Bedford, where they lived until 1984. They then moved again to another Public House, the 'Prince Albert' in Milton Keynes. Matt then worked in a meat packing factory at the age of 16. He worked in various jobs over the next year including- window fitter, hod carrier, labourer, removal man and furniture delivery. Matt started amateur boxing at the age of 18, winning 13 out of 15 bouts. He turned professional in 2001, winning 7 out of 10 fights as a professional Heavyweight. He fought World Champions James Toney and Anthony Joshua. Matt has two Brothers- Stuart and Andrew. He has three sons - Matthew Jr, Max and Mason.

As well as boxing he was also a bodybuilder, which he started at the age of 13. He reached his peak size at the age of 18, when he weighed 266 lbs, or 19 stone.

A successful Super Heavyweight amatuer boxer, reaching the ABA final in 2001. Winning 13 out of his 15 amatuer bouts, losing only on points , in two ABA finals. He won various amatuer titles including : Home Counties ABA Champion. England ABA Novice Champion. England ABA Finalist.

He subsequently turned professional at Heavyweight, and as of January 2015 has a professional record of 10 fights with 7 wins. He has fought former World Heavyweight Champion James Toney, and also took on Olympic Champion Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium.

His favourite actors include Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Johnny Depp, Robert DeNiro and Gary Oldman. Although Heath Ledgers performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight is one of his favourites.

Among his favourite movies are -The Artist, A Streetcar Named Desire, On The Waterfront, Citizen Cane, Get Carter, The Dark Knight, The Godfather parts 1 and 2, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Carlito's Way, Goodfellas, Back to the Future, Scarface, Unforgiven, Its a Wonderful Life, Taxi Driver, Pirates of the Caribbean, Dumb and Dumber, The Jerk, Borat and Meet the Parents.

He was arrested and spent the night in the police station after visiting Tom Hardy on the set of Bronson (2008). This was after being locked out of his rented apartment and breaking the door to get in out of the cold. The charges were dropped the following morning, and the incident was featured in artwork drawn by long term prisoner Charlie Bronson.
