Biography

Jeremy Thorpe was born on April 29, 1929 in Kensington, London, England, UK. He was married to Marion Thorpe and Caroline Julia Allpass. He died on December 4, 2014 in London, England, UK.

He was the leader of the British Liberal Party from 1967 to 1976.

In The Green Death: Episode Three (1973), the British Prime Minister is referred to as "Jeremy". This was a joke reference to Thorpe, which was inserted by the producer, Barry Letts, who was a Liberal Party voter.

In 1979, he was the first British politician to be tried for conspiracy and incitement to murder. Although he was acquitted, the scandal finished his political career. It was dramatized by the BBC with A Very English Scandal (2018), which starred film star Hugh Grant as Thorpe, was adapted by one of the UK's most acclaimed screenwriters, Russell T. Davies, and was directed by one of the UK's most acclaimed filmmakers, Stephen Frears.
