He was awarded Knight Bachelor of the Order of the British Empire in the 2018 Queen's New Years Honours List for his services to Social Sciences and Politics. He is the Professor of Politics at the University of Strathclyde. He is a Senior Research Fellow at Nat Cen Social Research. He lives in Glasgow, Scotland. He is also a Fellow of the British Academy and Royal Society E.
