- Michael Carter was born on October 29, 1960 in Dallas, Texas, USA.
- Won a Silver Medal in the Shot Put at the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. About six months later, he participated in the San Francisco Forty Niners' victory over the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XIX making him the only person ever to win an Olympic medal and a Super Bowl ring in the span of less than one calendar year.
- His daughter Michelle is also a world class shot putter.
