Biography

Dolly de Leon is a Filipino actress whose career spans theater, independent cinema, television, and international film. After studying theater arts at the University of the Philippines Diliman, she developed her craft on stage, appearing in productions such as "The Merchant of Venice", "Waiting for Godot", "Old Times", and "Medea". She made her screen debut in Shake Rattle & Roll III (1991) and spent many years working in small and often uncredited roles while balancing acting with other jobs. Her persistence paid off as she gradually built a reputation through projects including Aswang (2011), Billie & Emma (2018), and Lav Diaz's The Halt (2019)". A major breakthrough arrived with the acclaimed drama Verdict (2019), which earned her a FAMAS Award for Best Supporting Actress and brought wider attention to her work. She continued to gain recognition through performances in History of Ha (2021), Folklore (2018), and On the Job (2021), but achieved international acclaim for her portrayal of Abigail in Ruben Östlund's Palme d'Or-winning satire Triangle of Sadness (2022). The role brought her a Guldbagge Award, a Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award, and historic Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations, making her the first Filipino nominee in those categories. She later appeared in projects including The Missing (2023), A Very Good Girl (2023), Ghostlight (2024), Between the Temples (2024), and Jackpot! (2024), while also remaining active in theater and community initiatives through the co-founded social services organization Ladies Who Launch.
