Katie Madonna Lee, filmmaker and composer, uses film to confront cultural and visual bias. Lee graduated from Chicago Academy for the Arts and attended Berklee College of Music, graduating with a B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts. As a filmmaker, Lee has won numerous awards for her work, including The New York Women in Film & Television Award and L.A. Femme Festival Best Narrative Feature Award.
Lee, disrupts mainstream cultural stereotypes of the working poor through her musical compositions and narrative films. She uses her lived experiences from living in Indiana's rust belt to push back against coastal misrepresentations of the Midwest and the working poor. She uses music to preserve and celebrate historical events and memorialize people who represent pieces of her life.
