Biography

She is the recipient of many prestigious awards for her poetry which typically focuses on human relationships, the natural world, language, memory and perception. In 2009 Crozier was made a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and two years later an Officer of the Order of Canada.

From the first time I put pen to paper, I've been passionate about space. Where we spent our childhood shapes who we are and how we live. If I'd grown up in the rain forest instead of in a small prairie city, I'd be a different person. Place, I believe, also influences who we love and how we enact that love.

There's a terrible loneliness to being human because of the ways we've separated ourselves from the natural world and endangered other life forms, from old-growth trees to mountain caribou to codfish. The optimistic side of me hopes that in singing the praises of creatures different from ourselves, I'm affirming their holiness and vulnerability.
