Biography

Damaso Garcia was born on February 7, 1957 in Moca, Espaillat, Dominican Republic. He died on April 15, 2020 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

He was the first Blue Jay to achieve 1,000 hits and was the all-time club leader in hits (1,028), at-bats (3,572) and stolen bases (194). He had a .288 average with Toronto in 902 games, with 32 home runs and 296 RBIs.

He was an AL all-star in 1984 and 1985, and a Silver Slugger in 1982 when he batted .310 and had 54 stolen bases.

Before his baseball career he played football (soccer) and was the captain of the Dominican Republic national team in the 1974 Central American and Caribbean Games held in Santo Domingo.
