Biography

When she was a young girl, she babysat Gretchen Carlson.

Republican congresswoman from Minnesota (2007 - 2021).

Former tax litigation attorney.

Grew up in Anoka, Minnesota, graduating from Anoka public high school in 1974. She graduated with a B.A. from Winona State University in 1978 and later received her J.D. degree from Oral Roberts University (Oral Roberts) and a LL.M. degree in tax law in 1988 from the College of William and Mary's Marshall-Wythe School.

Served in the Minnesota State Senate from 2001-2007. She assumed office as a U.S. Representative on January 4, 2007.

[in 2011, comparing herself to actor John Wayne] Well what I want them [voters] to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That's the kind of spirit that I have, too. [NOTE: John Wayne was from Winterset, Iowa, not Waterloo.]

[in 2005, regarding the federally mandated minimum wage] If we took away the minimum wage--if conceivably it was gone--we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level.

[in 2011, claiming that a recent hurricane and a recent earthquake were signs from God to cut government spending] I don't know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We've had an earthquake; we've had a hurricane. He said, "Are you going to start listening to me here?" Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we've got to rein in the spending.

[in 2009] I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out under another, then under another Democrat president, Jimmy Carter. I'm not blaming this on President [Barack Obama]. I just think it's an interesting coincidence. [NOTE: The 1976 swine flu outbreak occurred during the administration of President Gerald Ford, a Republican, not Jimmy Carter.]
