Biography

Alireza Alavian is one of the most acclaimed and decorated sound designers and re-recording mixers in Iranian cinema. He began his professional career in 2001 as an assistant sound editor and started working independently in 2003 with the sound post-production of Fereydoun Jeyrani’s feature film Season Salad.

Over more than two decades, Alavian has collaborated with some of the most prominent directors from different generations of Iranian cinema. His creative approach, meticulous attention to detail, distinctive sonic environments, and use of sound as a fundamental storytelling element have become defining features of his work.

With nine Crystal Simorgh awards from the Fajr Film Festival, he is regarded as one of the most decorated sound professionals in the history of Iranian cinema. He received these awards for Anahita, Che, No Date, No Signature, Damascus Time, Sheeple, The Grassland, No Prior Appointment, South of the Legacy, and Escort.

Alavian also received Iranian cinema’s first international award in the field of sound for the sound design and editing of the short film Beyond the Dead End. His career includes numerous other awards and nominations from prominent national and international film events.

Alireza Alavian is among the pioneers of professional Dolby Atmos production and mixing in Iranian cinema. He regards sound not merely as a technical element accompanying the image, but as an independent and expressive language for storytelling, shaping cinematic environments, and conveying the characters’ emotions.
