David Mendez, born in Miami Beach and raised in East Tennessee, joined the US Army Infantry at 17 and served on the East/West German border (1986-88). He remained an ex-pat in Germany working as a bartender until 1993 before studying film at Valencia College in Orlando, FL. Moving to San Francisco in 2000, he pursued documentary studies while managing nightclubs, then re-enlisting in 2004, he served on the Korean DMZ and later deployed to Afghanistan with CJSOTF-A and the 82nd Airborne, providing protective security for the deputy commander of all American forces under ISAF. After his 18-month deployment, he returned with honors. Since 2007, he has worked in the film and TV industries of Los Angeles for 14 years before moving to Atlanta in 2019 as both a crew member and performer, taught special makeup FX (2016-2019), and is a member of the Television Academy, The American Legion, IATSE, SAG-AFTRA, and a NREMT.
