Biography

Robin Takao D’Oench is a writer-director originally from New York City whose work blends personal history with visually striking, genre-forward storytelling. Robin's most recent work, FIRELINE - centering on incarcerated firefighters in a California prison - premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, won an award at HollyShorts, and screened at Palm Springs Int’l Shortfest, the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards, and Newport Beach Film Festival. The film qualified for the 97th Academy Awards, was nominated for two Webby awards and is streaming on Hulu. His debut short, TADAIMA - inspired by his family’s experience during Japanese American internment - premiered at CAAMFest, won the Best Short category at the Philadelphia Asian American FF and DisOrient Film Festival. His other projects, TRESPASSERS (Hulu), HARD (Film Independent), HERE COMES FRIEDA (WatchDust) have screened at Slamdance, NewFest, and the Rhode Island Int’l Film Festival. Robin is a directing alumnus of Film Independent’s Project Involve, Hulu’s Bitesize Halloween, Indeed’s Rising Voices and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
