Biography

Brett Hickey is the Founder & CEO of Star Mountain Capital, a specialized investment firm bringing large market capabilities and resources to established small and medium-sized private businesses. Star Mountain's distinctive investment platform provides superior information, relationships and resources to the lower middle-market through three complementary verticals: (i) Direct Investments in Businesses, (ii) Strategic Primary Fund Investments (including to SBIC funds), and (iii) Secondary Fund Investments. Star Mountain provides its portfolio companies (generally cash flow positive businesses with $10 million to $150 million of annual revenues) with strategic capital, human resources and relationships to grow and achieve their business objectives.

Mr. Hickey is as an active member of thought leadership organizations relating to (i) Small & Medium-Sized Businesses, (ii) Private Investments and (iii) Economic Development / Job Creation. Memberships include: Board of Governors for the Small Business Investor Alliance (SBIA); Member and former Chairman of Networks for the NYC Young Presidents' Organization (YPO); Board of Harvard University Entrepreneurs Alumni Association of NY; Advisor to Institutional Investor (II); Advisor to Buyouts Insider; Board of McGill University Alumni Association of NY (past recipient of the President of the Year); and Global Board Director of Help For Children (HFC).

Mr. Hickey received a Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction from McGill University (Finance Major and Accounting Concentration) and graduated from Harvard Business School's Owner/President Management Program (three-year executive program for business owners). He is a frequent guest lecturer on industry panels and at academic institutions. Mr. Hickey is also a former Canadian national gold medalist and North American medalist in speed skating.

Core to Star Mountain Capital's corporate culture and as an active philanthropist, Mr. Hickey also founded the Star Mountain Charitable Foundation. The foundation focuses primarily on economic development and health / wellness (including cancer research inspired by Mr. Hickey's mother passing from cancer when he was a child). Mr. Hickey has received multiple recognitions for his philanthropic efforts including the Pathfinders to Peace Award from Shinnyo-En Foundation (promoting volunteerism and peace), A Guiding Star from AYUDA (helping students with financial needs) and the Philanthropic Achievement Award from A Caring Hand (benefiting bereaved children). He resides in NYC with his wife and son.
