Myles Kane

Biography

Myles Kane

Mini bio

  • Myles Kane is an award winning Documentary filmmaker and editor known for directing the feature films 'Voyeur' (Netflix), 'Journey to Planet X' (Hulu), and the critically acclaimed HBO series 'I'll Be Gone in the Dark,' executive produced by Liz Garbus and Patton Oswalt. His films have played at festivals across the country and the world, including The Tribeca Film Festival, The New York Film Festival, and SXSW, and he was listed as one of Doc NYC's '40 under 40' exceptional filmmakers. Myles's documentary shorts include 'We Will Live Again,' a film chronicling the extraordinary operations of the Cryonics Institute, and the ESPN 30 for 30 short 'An Immortal Man,' about the bizarre afterlife of baseball legend Ted Williams.

As an editor, Myles has worked on the Emmy nominated series 'Captive Audience,' and the Netflix series 'Crime Scene: The Texas Killing Fields.' He has edited the documentary features 'We are Wizards' about Harry Potter fan bands, 'Made in India,' about the surrogate birthing network between the US and India, and 'Ask the Sexpert,' about an Indian sex advice columnist breaking social norms in the name of education.

Along with fellow director Josh Koury, Myles co-founded the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival, where he programmed shorts and features of countless up and coming filmmakers including the Duplass Brothers, and promoted the work of outsider artists such as the subjects of his own film 'Journey to Planet X.' From 2010-2015, Myles was the video producer for The New Yorker, where he shot, directed, and edited documentary shorts and scripted content, and created the original series 'The Cartoon Lounge.' For many years Myles worked as a producer and editor for the BBC, traveling the world and filming with 'Talking Movies' host Tom Brook. His travels also took him to Uganda, where he spent a summer documenting the film school created Mira Nair which works to give training and support for African filmmakers.

Myles is also a musician and experimental video maker, and for many years he performed alongside Bridget Everett, Kenny Mellman, and Neal Medlyn at the popular Joe's Pub show 'Our Hit Parade,' where he live-edited archival mash up videos set to music.
