From an early age, DeWitt Jones possessed an undeniable passion for the arts, but that passion was given a sense of purpose and possibility during the summer of 1977, when his mother took him to see George Lucas’ Star Wars. The experience left an indelible mark on him and ignited a lifelong fascination with the power of filmmaking, storytelling, and imagination.

His first classroom in filmmaking was not a film school, it was the library. There, he immersed himself in the works and careers of legendary filmmakers and storytellers, studying the creative approaches of Oscar Micheaux, Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Brian De Palma, Gordon Parks, Melvin Van Peebles, Rod Serling, and many others. These artists helped shape his understanding of visual storytelling and inspired him to develop a cinematic voice of his own.

A few years after film school, following the demands of life and family, DeWitt landed his first position on a feature-length motion picture as cinematographer for filmmaker Bobby Peoples’ drama, The Black Love Stories Vol. 1. The experience marked an important milestone in his evolution as a filmmaker.

Not long afterward, DeWitt was hired to write and direct his first feature film, the action-horror thriller Night of the Jackals. The film showcased his distinctive combination of intelligent writing, inventive direction, suspense, and sly humor. Although Night of the Jackals received critical recognition, its financial success did not match its creative achievements.

DeWitt would soon leave TPN and establish his own production company, Steel City Pictures. The company’s first release was Uncanny, a psychological Christian science fiction thriller anthology that DeWitt wrote, directed, and produced. The film received critical praise for its originality and unconventional storytelling, although its abstract, Twin Peaks style approach to suspense set against an "Any Town, USA" backdrop proved challenging for some audiences.

Nevertheless, Uncanny would become the catalyst for a trilogy that ultimately produced what DeWitt considers his greatest cinematic achievement to date: the mind-bending thriller IMagine.

DeWitt Jones has described IMagine as the most difficult film he has ever created. His intention was to construct an exceptionally challenging thriller, one in which the audience becomes trapped within its own fear, perception, and imagination. Inspired by the cinematic techniques of masters such as Alfred Hitchcock and Brian De Palma, DeWitt deliberately embraces suspense, psychological manipulation, misdirection, and unexpected narrative turns.

The result is a cinematic experience that continually challenges the audience’s perception of what is real. Critics have praised IMagine as a firestorm of unpredictable loops, twists, and psychological swirls, a film designed to keep viewers questioning what they have seen long after the story ends.
