Biography

Sandy Duarte

Mini bio

  • Dora Award winner, Sandy Duarte recently won Best Supporting Actor for her role in the award-winning feature film CHERRY, which saw its world premiere at The Tribeca Film Festival (June 2022) and won the AUDIENCE AWARD, followed by its West Coast premiere at DTLA Film festival (September 2022) garnering 4 wins. Hailed as Los Angeles Times CRITICS CHOICE for her ensemble work in 'Fefu And Her Friends' at the long-standing iconic Odyssey Theatre in West LA, she won the prestigious Dora Award [Canada's Tony Award] for her Outstanding Female Performance for the production of 'Blood' written by Tom Walmsley, a role the playwright himself specifically asked her to perform. 'Blood' also garnered three nominations for a production Duarte not only starred in but had also produced.

Seasoned on both stage and screen, Sandy was thrilled to be a part of the critically acclaimed cast/team of 'Fefu And Her Friends', during the two-month run on stage at The Odyssey Theatre, where she portrayed the haunted Julia, in a wheelchair following a mysterious hunting accident. Odyssey Theatre Ensemble ignited with its "Circa '69!" season of significant and adventurous plays that premiered around the time of the Odyssey's 1969 inception with the signature work of this early feminist giant of the avant-garde, María Irene Fornés.

Sandy Duarte's desire to expand has driven her to go Global. She is Canadian / Portuguese holding dual citizenship and both passports, as well as a USA Greencard holder. She works and resides between Los Angeles, California and Toronto, Canada and looks forward to continually expanding her heart and mind in all areas from Stage to Cinema.
