Nima Sarvestani is an Iranian-born Swedish documentary filmmaker, director and producer whose work focuses on human rights, political repression, exile and the lives of people caught in systems of violence and injustice.
Before moving to Sweden in 1984, Sarvestani worked as a journalist in Iran. His background in journalism has strongly influenced his documentary approach, combining long-term access, investigative research and character-driven storytelling.
His films include 'I Was Worth 50 Sheep', 'No Burqas Behind Bars', 'Those Who Said No', 'Prison Sisters' and 'Surviving the Death Committee'. His documentaries have been broadcast internationally and screened at numerous film festivals, receiving awards and nominations for their treatment of human rights, women’s lives, political persecution and the consequences of authoritarian rule.
Sarvestani is based in Sweden and continues to develop and direct documentary films for an international audience.
