Andrea Federico was born on 16/10/1980 in Casarano (LE).
Since he was a child, he has had an interest in science fiction images and stories.
In a very short time (but not suspiciously short), this child began to devour tons of films: on becoming an adult he moved into the world of audiovisual narration.
In 2001 he made FLAT 414, his first short film.
In 2002 he made HISTOIRE, an experimental medium-length film based on a story by the American writer William T. Vollmann (included in the collection 'The Rainbow Stories'), in which images and music blend into each other to tell a bizarre love story. His visual-narrative experimentation continued with the short HMM, which he made with the intention of putting his technical and special effects skills to the test. Thanks to these projects, in 2002 he was admitted to the course in Screen writing and Production at the Civica Scuola di Cinema e Televisione in Milan.
After participating in various festivals, he made two shorts for the Italian state broadcaster RAI: INTERNO (RAI / ZIGZAG S.r.l.) was adapted from the novel by Alessandra Farkas and was presented on the occasion of the arts festival in Forte Village (CA); L'AMICO SPECIALE (RAI / TELETHON) was broadcast on the occasion of the Telethon. The two works were well-received by the commissioning body and the public at the festivals where they were presented.
From 2007 to 2009, the director made DIARIO DI MEZZANOTTE and CASSANDRA, two shorts of the horror / fantasy genres. The former was inspired by the novel 'American Psycho' by Bret Easton Ellis and by a short story by the writer Randall Garrett. CASSANDRA was adapted from a short story by Steven Pianelli, a friend of the director. In both cases, the director sought to blend images and music in the best of ways, in order to create a fluid and functional narrative fabric, rich in sensations and light on dialogue.
In the same period, the director created numerous video-installations for the backdrop to theatrical and live dance events: he worked with various theatrical companies (e.g. Duende TeatroDanza and Erasmus International Theatre) and he produced two videos for the groups SHOTGUN BABIES ('Paralyze') and COSMICA ('Percezioni D'Amore).
From 2008 to 2011, Andrea Federico made I-N, his first feature-length film: taken from a short story by the Spanish writer Juan José Millás, the film saw the light thanks to an 8-month fund-raising operation (starting in late 2008). Several private companies - of small, medium and large dimensions - were involved as sponsors. The budget was not huge (about EUR 7000), but it enabled the troupe to begin the complex and intricate production. I-N was to severely test the technical and artistic talents of all the personnel involved. Making the film took three years of hard work. From the end of 2010 to 2015, Andrea Federico made GRIMPEURS. The story of seven climbers trapped on the frozen slopes of Mont Blanc immediately stirred his imagination. After almost five years of intense effort, the final result confirmed the director's technical and artistic maturity.
GRIMPEURS was well-received at the numerous arts festivals where it was admitted to compete.
While working on the post-production of GRIMPEURS, Andrea Federico produced the short KANDIA (by the African director Jean Hamado Tiemtoré): presented at various national and international arts festivals, the work garnered a wealth of prizes and recognition.
In 2022 Andrea Federico realized the short movie SEIRÉN, presented and selected at various national and international arts festivals.
