Biography

Kurt Hockenberry

Overview

  • Height
    5′ 8″ (1.73 m)

Biography

  • As the 9th of 10 siblings from a small town in Ohio, Kurt Hockenberry gives all the credit for his career in the stunt industry to his four diabolically-fun older brothers. Often "volunteered" to be strapped onto their homemade contraptions as "test brother", his career path was firmly set in place long before he found himself privileged to be a stunt double for actors such as Jake Gyllenhaal, Dean Norris, Tom Hardy and Chris Messina.

Now, three decades and thousands of car jumps later, Kurt Hockenberry continues to thrill, on-screen, with the extraordinary stunt driving, drifting and car jumping skills he mastered as a veteran live performer at Disney's "Lights, Motors, Action(!)". Ever dedicated to honing his craft, Kurt's early career included stunt boat driving for Universal's Lagoon Show, rigging for Cirque Du Soleil, acting under Rus Blackwell at The William Shakespeare Center and fight choreography for The Epic Indiana Jones Stunt Show.

Kurt is singularly distinguished in that he's not only a film & TV veteran but was also invited to serve four years as a Subject Matter Expert; training both U.S., as well as Foreign National Militaries, in Pre-Deployment Tactical Vehicular Combat. Kurt's AAR's (after-action reports) consistently ranked him at the top of his peers by what he'll only describe as "3-Letter-Agencies". The U.S. Special Forces Team often referred to him simply as "The Grey Man", so-named for his many years quietly maneuvering between the worlds of combat training and the film industry. His duties for the United States Special Forces teams, and which uniquely complement his stunt driving career, included off-road and high-speed rally driving, rescue-and-recovery under fire, ramming, pitting and other vehicular combat techniques. His highest honor, however, is being a dad. Kurt continues to love his work in stunt coordinating, stunt driving and stunt rigging; a job he calls the best poor-career-choice he ever made.
