Sergio Pininfarina was born on 8 September 1926 in Turin, Piedmont, Italy. He was married to Giorgia Gianolio. He died on 3 July 2012 in Turin, Piedmont, Italy.

Became chairman of the Pininfarina automobile company (makers of Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, and Maserati) in 1966 following the death of his father.

Inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2007.
