- Diplomat, member of European Commission and businessman, he was in his later years as the companion of Antoinette Spaak who died in 2020.
- The Brussels Council Chamber referred him to the Brussels Criminal Court on 12 May 2026, for his participation in war crimes that led to the assassination of Patrice Lumumba , First Prime Minister of the Independent Congo, on January 17, 1961. He was the last survivor of the ten Belgians (civil servants, police officers, intelligence officers) against whom a complaint was filed in 2011 by Lumumba's eldest son.
- On 26 January 2004, Davignon was given the honorary title of Minister of State, giving him a seat on the Crown Council of Belgium.
