Biography

Mojean Aria is an award winning actor, writer, director, and producer whose work spans film and television internationally.

In 2018, Mojean made history as the first unsigned recipient of the Heath Ledger Scholarship, chosen by a judging panel that included Gary Oldman and Bruna Papandrea, and backed by benefactors Nicole Kidman and Michelle Williams. Judge Kimberly Peirce praised his work as "rich, nuanced, precise, beautiful, authentic, emotive and fierce." It was a declaration of things to come.

Since then he has worked opposite some of the most celebrated performers of his generation, Jason Momoa in Apple TV+‘s See, Hugh Jackman in Warner Bros.’ Reminiscence, Antonio Banderas in The Enforcer, Russell Crowe in Beast, and most recently Tom Hanks in an Apple Original Film.

His performance in Shayda, which opened the World Cinema competition at Sundance 2023, won the Audience Award, and was acquired by Sony Pictures Classics with Cate Blanchett as executive producer, earned him an AACTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor, Australia’s equivalent of the Academy Awards.

Mojean Aria founded production company Mystic Makers in 2020. As a producer and director, his work has premiered at major festivals including TIFF and SXSW, earning Grand Jury Prizes, Audience Awards, and Academy Award qualification.

He beat out over nine hundred and fifty actors when he secured the role of the young Jake LaMotta.

He portrayed Jake LaMotta in the film The Bronx Bull, a role first made famous by Robert De Niro in the classic Raging Bull.

The first unsigned recipient of the Heath Ledger Scholarship as well being the first from a multi-cultural background. The judging panel consisted of established names such as: Naomi Watts, Ryan Murphy, Gary Oldman, Bruna Papandrea, Kimberly Peirce, Emile Sherman, Jacqueline McKenzie, Gregor Jordan and Ronna Kress.
