Biography

Pierre Nora was born on November 17, 1931 in Paris, France. He was an actor, known for Librairie Mollat (2009), Empreintes (2007) and Metropolis (1995). He was married to Françoise Cachin and Anne Sinclair. He died on June 2, 2025 in Paris, France.

Major historian and author, member of the Académie française.

Historian, project manager of the "Places of Memory", published in seven volumes from 1984, the creator of the magazine "Le Débat".

Nora is a Holocaust survivor, having managed to escape from the Gestapo during the German Occupation of France. In January 1944, hiding in a school in the small town of Villard-de-Lans in southeastern France, 12-year-old Nora was awakened at 3 a.m. by a schoolmaster, who announced that the Gestapo had arrived to arrest him; Nora leaped out a window and fled.
