Biography

Duane P. Craig

Overview

  • Height
    5′ 10″ (1.78 m)

Biography

  • Duane started reading Stephen King, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Philip K. Dick stories by age six, and he was writing his own little tales shortly after. Duane's father encouraged this and also became his toughest critic / best teacher. Duane tried crude FX using medical tape, play doh and various colored markers on his action figures by age eight, so again, his father encouraged learning more along with purchasing whatever true FX supplies could be had at the time. By age twelve, Duane used dental supplies to mold and cast his own teeth and then used gummy acrylic to design perfectly form-fitting vampire fangs. From age 16 to 28, Duane toured the Southern states trying to succeed with a rock band, but he never stopped writing or working with FX. In 2002, Duane left the music scene to focus on his film-related loves more seriously than ever before. He taught himself screenwriting by only studying David Koepp's script for the film, Panic Room. Right away, Duane received attention of people in Los Angeles, CA along with script writers and consultants in the UK. Duane was able to prove his FX worth, as consumer camcorders became more cost-attainable, and the boom of indie horror films began. Timing and luck are often considered key to any major achievements in the entertainment industry, and it has been decidedly so for Duane...and he'll quickly admit to it himself.

Trademarks

  • Medical and/or scientific means often are used in his stories to put a new spin on plot devices or cliche's.
  • When he does FX, he likes to focus on making people's fingers, eyes and mouths look unsettling.
  • Look for dinner table scenes in any of his scripts. His thinking is that dinner tables can even make the most opposing characters come face to face.

Trivia

  • Duane has only six percent use of his sense of smell. He is cautiously more hygienic than most because of this.
  • In college, Duane worked towards a psychiatry degree. Though he didn't finish, he claims he learned plenty that scared him about the human mind for what helps him better work in the horror and film noir genres.
  • Duane has been known to do some pretty spot-on celebrity, voice impersonations and professes a love of the Marx Brothers.
